Team West emerged as the champions of the recently revived Golf Fiji East v West Tournament, held at the FSC Ba Golf Club over the weekend. With a final score of 27-21, Team West demonstrated their prowess in various categories, securing victories in the A Grade, B Grade, C Grade, and the Junior division. However, they fell short in the Ladies’ category, where Team East clinched a commanding 5-1 win.

Tournament Director Rohit Chandra expressed his satisfaction with the event’s outcome, remarking, “The event was a grand success. West won all grades except the Ladies division. We’re grateful to Ba Golf Club for hosting this year, and everyone praised the excellent condition of the course.” Chandra also noted the significance of the tournament’s revival after a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrating the re-engagement of all clubs in the competition.

Chandra recognized the contributions of Golf Fiji’s executives and President Amitesh Chandra in facilitating the smooth operation of the tournament. Looking ahead, the next tournament is slated to take place at the Fiji Golf Club, with Golf Fiji actively seeking sponsors to support uniforms, transportation, and possibly accommodations for players.

This year’s success paints a bright future for inter-district golf in Fiji, reinforcing Golf Fiji’s commitment to recognizing and promoting competitive play among local clubs. The category breakdown reveals Team West’s strong performances across the different grades, emphasizing the spirit of teamwork and regional pride that defines this traditional event.

The essence of this tournament extends beyond competition; it serves as a celebration of Fiji’s rich golfing culture and camaraderie among the golfers, ensuring that the passion for the game continues to thrive within the community.
