Fiji’s participation in the 2025 Pacific Mini Games concluded with an inspiring Thanksgiving ceremony held at the Vodafone Arena, acknowledging the remarkable achievements of Team Fiji. The event, which took place on July 19, commemorated the team’s successful campaign in Palau, where they secured an impressive haul of 27 gold, 30 silver, and 24 bronze medals, culminating in a second-place finish on the overall medal tally.
Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, opened the ceremony with heartfelt gratitude directed at the athletes and officials. He praised their resilience, dedication, and the immense pride they have brought to the nation. The Minister emphasized that the athletes’ performance is measured not solely by medal counts but also by personal growth, humility, and their ability to inspire others.
A highlight of the evening involved the presentation of Certificates of Participation, where each sport was recognized for their contributions to Fiji’s overall success. The Athletes’ Choice Awards further engaged participants, with athletes themselves choosing recipients based on criteria like spirit, leadership, and performance.
Cathy Wong, president of FASANOC, expressed her thanks to everyone involved, underscoring the national pride felt for the achievements both on and off the field. As Team Fiji looks ahead, they are already setting new goals for upcoming challenges like the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
The celebration also acknowledged the extensive support from various partners, including the Fiji Government, Fiji National Sports Commission, and numerous sponsors, recognizing their crucial role in the team’s success. With an optimistic outlook, Fiji’s athletes are gearing up to build on this momentum, carrying the hopes of a proud nation as they prepare for future competitions. The achievements celebrated during this ceremony not only reflect hard work and dedication but also foster a renewed sense of hope for the future of sports in Fiji.
