“Team Fiji 7s Women’s Captain Reveals Shocking Truth”

Team Fiji 7s women’s captain Raijeli Daveua has admitted to the team’s dismal performance at the France Olympics, where they finished last. The Tokyo 2020 bronze medalists started with a 17-14 loss to Canada, followed by a shocking 40-12 defeat by Olympic debutants China. They were then beaten 38-7 by eventual gold medal winners New Zealand, stunned by Brazil 28-22 in the ninth spot playoff, and sent home by South Africa with a 21-15 loss in the 11th position match.

Despite being ranked sixth upon entering the Stade de France, the Fijiana team returned home at the bottom after losing all their games. “It hurts, it hurts so much,” said an emotional Daveua. She noted that the team’s mental state was a significant factor in their poor performance, with many players losing focus and playing more individually.

Daveua praised the coaches for their preparation efforts but expressed disappointment in the team’s execution. “The coaches did their job; it was just the players with their mental preparation,” she said. She acknowledged that the unexpected loss to China highlighted their weaknesses, as the Saiasi Fuli-coached side was outplayed in several areas.

Although there were no major injuries, Daveua emphasized that the little details were crucial in the Olympics. She also noted that some unexpected issues arose during the games, which impacted their performance.

Looking ahead, Daveua expressed an interest in coaching but stated she would focus on her current job and spend time with loved ones for now.
