The Ministry of Education has disbursed a total of $988,648.30 to educators who have enhanced their teaching qualifications in line with the Teacher Remuneration Policy during the final payroll of 2024. This financial support aims to uphold a high-quality teaching workforce equipped with advanced skills and experience.
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro emphasized that this timely remuneration reflects the Coalition Government’s unwavering commitment to excellence in education. It demonstrates their dedication to fairly compensating teachers for their essential contribution to the educational sector.
Looking ahead, this increment is projected to carry a financial implication of $2.3 million for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Teachers who have achieved these relevant qualifications will be permanently elevated to either Band E, Step 1, or Band F, Step 3, within the Fiji Civil Service pay structure.
“Teachers are the backbone of our education system, and their hard work and resilience do not go unnoticed,” said Radrodro. He highlighted that this initiative is just one way to recognize and reward teachers for their dedication to maintaining a quality workforce.
In light of the increasing educational demands—including advancements in technology, continuous curriculum updates, and the need for emotional support for students—it is vital to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions of teachers. Minister Radrodro noted that as the educational landscape transforms, it is crucial for teachers to possess the necessary skills, qualifications, and experience to thrive in a constantly evolving environment.
He further stated that “proper remuneration will ensure that the Ministry of Education retains a quality teaching workforce who will bring their expertise, creativity, and passion to our children.” This commitment to fostering quality and excellence underpins their strategy to create a supportive and inclusive workplace for teachers.
This announcement of increased support for teachers is a positive indication of the government’s recognition of educators’ vital roles in shaping the future of Fiji’s children. It reflects a hopeful perspective where the investment in teacher qualifications ultimately leads to a stronger, more capable educational system.
