The Education Minister, Aseri Radrodro, announced that delayed salary payments for over 60 teachers have finally been processed. Some teachers have already received their payments this week due to payment cut-off dates, while the remainder is expected to receive their funds by next week. Radrodro has assured the public of his engagement with both the finance and human resources departments to resolve these ongoing payment delays.

He explained that the delays were primarily caused by internal issues, including incomplete documentation. The process for new teachers requires thorough verification of documents, such as tax details and signed contracts, making it susceptible to setbacks if any information is missing. “It’s not entirely the fault of the Ministry of Education,” Radrodro noted, emphasizing the need for new employees to understand the importance of submitting accurate documentation.

Looking ahead, the Minister expressed optimism about implementing systematic improvements aimed at streamlining the induction process for teachers. This proactive approach is intended to ensure timely and accurate submission of documents, which should help prevent similar issues in the future.

Radrodro’s reassurance follows previous discussions regarding the broader concerns in the education sector related to salary payment issues, which have impacted the financial stability of many educators. It’s hoped that these recent actions will restore confidence among teachers and improve the overall quality of education in Fiji.

The commitment from the Ministry to address these structural problems reflects a positive and hopeful outlook for the future of education in the country. By actively resolving these financial concerns, the government aims to foster a supportive environment for educators that ultimately benefits students and the wider community.
