The Ministry of Education has processed salary upgrades for approximately 250 teachers in the previous financial year, amounting to potential financial implications of about $4.1 million. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro addressed concerns raised by Opposition MP Premila Kumar regarding the lack of corresponding salary increases for teachers who have enhanced their qualifications.

Mr. Radrodro explained that two important policy initiatives have been completed in collaboration with the Civil Service. The first initiative aligns with the Coalition Government’s policy to regularize and elevate eligible personnel within the Civil Service starting in February 2024. He further noted that 395 teachers have been identified as qualified for both upgrades and salary adjustments, projected to result in an additional expenditure of $4.1 million.

Discussions are ongoing to finalize submissions for implementing these salary increases, with hopes to facilitate this payment to eligible teachers sometime next year.

This development is promising for the teaching profession, highlighting the government’s recognition of the hard work and qualifications of educators. As discussions advance, there is optimism for greater financial recognition of teachers, which is crucial for acknowledging their essential role in shaping the future of students.
