The Ministry of Education has taken significant steps to address salary upgrades for teachers, processing upgrades for approximately 250 educators in the previous financial year. These changes come with a substantial financial implication, totaling around $4.1 million.
In response to a query from Opposition MP Premila Kumar regarding the lack of salary adjustments for teachers who have improved their qualifications, Education Minister Aseri Radrodro provided clarity on the matter. He explained that two essential policy initiatives were concluded in partnership with the Civil Service.
The first initiative involves the Coalition Government’s direction aimed at regularizing and stepping up eligible positions within the Civil Service, set to take effect in February 2024. Minister Radrodro indicated that they have identified 395 teachers eligible for qualification upgrades and corresponding salary adjustments, which would incur the additional cost of $4.1 million. He reassured that discussions are underway to facilitate these salary payments sometime next year.
