The Ministry of Education has announced the revival of interviews for Year 13 students who wish to become teachers. This initiative, developed in cooperation with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS), is designed to improve the quality of teacher recruitment and training throughout Fiji.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro highlighted the necessity of a thorough selection process to attract dedicated and well-qualified candidates for the teaching profession. This initiative aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which aims to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and the Ministry of Education to ensure graduates possess the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to succeed in classrooms across the country.

Eligible students are invited to apply for scholarships under the Merit-Based Higher Education (Level 7 Local Scheme) as well as the Minimum Cut-Off Mark Scheme, which encompasses various Bachelor of Education programs, including specialized fields such as Early Childhood Education, Counselling, and Industrial Arts.

The deadline for submitting online applications to TSLS is January 31, 2025. Successful applicants will be informed of their interview dates and locations via email and phone.

This initiative is a significant step towards cultivating a new generation of capable and passionate educators in Fiji, ensuring that future teachers are adequately prepared for the demands of the profession. It is an optimistic move towards enhancing educational standards and improving student outcomes across the country.
