The Ministry of Education was alerted to the shortage of primary school teachers during the Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting held yesterday in Tamavua Village, Suva. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro acknowledged the issue, noting that it has been an ongoing challenge for various schools in the province.
Radrodro stated, “We recognize the lack of teachers and are committed to finding solutions to support these schools.” He mentioned that the shortage is a longstanding problem inherited by the Coalition Government and highlighted efforts to recruit secondary school teacher graduates willing to teach at the primary level.
Additionally, he addressed concerns about the requirement for teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, affirming that the ministry is collaborating with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLS) to enhance the recruitment of teacher trainees in the upcoming year.
“We aim to encourage these trainees to join this initiative and graduate as teachers in areas with the highest demand,” Radrodro explained.
He also encouraged students in the province to aspire to achieve great things, saying, “Dream beyond the walls of the classroom. Opportunities are always present, so stay confident as you pursue your goals. Keep focused on your objectives and always prioritize your faith.”
