A significant shortage of primary school teachers was highlighted during the recent Naitasiri Provincial Council meeting in Tamavua Village, Suva. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro addressed the issue, acknowledging the ministry’s ongoing efforts to tackle this challenge.

“The lack of teachers has impacted various schools in the province. We recognize this issue and are committed to finding the best solutions to support them,” Minister Radrodro stated. He emphasized that this problem is a legacy issue inherited by the Coalition Government, which has led to a shortage of primary school teachers. In response, the ministry is actively recruiting secondary school teacher graduates willing to teach at the primary level.

Radrodro noted that there is a particular need for teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. To address this, the ministry plans to collaborate with the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Board (TSLS) in the upcoming year to enhance the recruitment of teacher trainees. “We hope to encourage new graduates to become part of this initiative and focus on teaching in areas with the greatest demand,” he added.

The minister also inspired students in the province to aspire to great achievements. “Dream beyond the classroom. Opportunities are always within reach, so believe in yourself as you strive to reach your goals. Stay dedicated to your ambitions and always prioritize your faith in everything you pursue,” he urged.
