A weather disturbance near the Solomon Islands has escalated into Tropical Disturbance TD03F, as reported by meteorological officials early this morning. This system is currently moving southeast and is projected to pass between Vanuatu and Fiji in the coming days.

Forecasters indicate that the disturbance could strengthen, with a moderate to high likelihood of evolving into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. Current modeling suggests that the center of the system may consolidate and intensify near Vanuatu.

For Fiji, residents can expect fresh to strong northerly winds beginning late Sunday or early Monday, with sustained winds potentially reaching 55 km/h and gusts of up to 80 km/h. Depending on the development and trajectory of TD03F, there is a chance that winds may escalate to near-gale or gale force.

Additionally, persistent rainfall is anticipated across Fiji next week, propelled by an active trough of low pressure already affecting the area. Authorities have issued warnings regarding the increased risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone regions.

The Fiji Meteorological Service continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as developments unfold. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, prepare in advance, and limit travel during adverse weather conditions. Preparedness and community awareness will be key in navigating this weather challenge.
