Taxpayers Foot the Bill for Ministerial Trip to Vanua Levu

The Lands Minister, Filimoni Vosarogo, confirmed that the travel costs for six ministers visiting Vanua Levu were covered by the Government. When questioned about their adherence to budget-cutting promises made during the election campaign, Mr. Vosarogo emphasized the significance of the ministers’ attendance at the event for the Government’s bilateral relations.

He stated that the two ministers and four assistant ministers attended an event in Namuka at the invitation of the Japanese Embassy. The visit on Thursday included the inauguration of a new classroom block and the donation of a fiberglass boat to a local health facility.

Mr. Vosarogo mentioned that the invitation came from the Japanese Ambassador, highlighting the respect shown towards their international partners. He clarified that taxpayer money funded their trip, not the embassy.

“This is part of our work,” he noted, adding that the ministers would also assess various projects under their ministry and engage with the community to understand the challenges they face and explore solutions.
