A 52-year-old taxi driver from Nakasi has been charged by the Fiji Police Force M-Paisa Taskforce Team for allegedly obtaining financial advantage through dishonest means. The accusations stem from an incident that took place on September 8 of the previous year, where the driver is believed to have fraudulently acquired $100 from a victim using M-Paisa.
According to the police investigation, the victim discovered a Facebook post offering car hire services and was instructed to pay a deposit to secure a reservation. After sending the money, the victim attempted to contact the driver but was unable to reach him.
Following this incident, the matter was reported to the Consumer Council, which subsequently directed the case to the Fiji Police Force Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Toorak for further action.
Currently, the accused is in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court at the Nasinu Magistrate Court today.
