Former CEO of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) Jitoko Tikolevu has been appointed as a new board director. His appointment, along with that of chartered accountant Nitin Gandhi, was announced by FRCS yesterday.

“The new board members bring valuable expertise and perspectives that will help guide FRCS with effective strategic direction and oversight,” said FRCS CEO Udit Singh. “Their diverse talent and expertise will strengthen our board and enhance our capability to meet our strategic objectives as we strive to become a world-class revenue service excelling in revenue collection, border protection, and trade and travel facilitation.”

Tikolevu previously served as Fiji’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 2016 to 2023 and has been on the boards of Investment Fiji and the Fiji Development Bank. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Studies from the University of the South Pacific and a Master’s degree in Taxation from the University of Auckland.

Gandhi, a fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand and a former president of the Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants, is an accredited mediator and has served as president of the Fiji Red Cross Society. He is currently a member of the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) Audit and Risk Commission in Geneva. With over 38 years of experience in providing professional services in assurance, taxation, and advisory, Gandhi has worked with numerous businesses across various industries including tourism, aviation, energy, manufacturing, retail, agriculture, and financial services in Fiji and the region.

Upon accepting his role as FRCS board director, Gandhi acknowledged the challenges the organization faces in its reforms and administrative systems. He emphasized the necessity of embracing globalization and digitalization to ensure FRCS serves its customers efficiently and fairly. “Modernizing tax compliance and developing systems accordingly will be crucial for the country’s economic development,” he said.
