The Tavua Co-operative for Eco-Tourism and Sustainable Agriculture conducted its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Tagitagi in Tavua yesterday, focusing on promoting sustainability in tourism and agriculture within the region. The meeting saw a participation of community members and leaders who are dedicated to fostering local development through innovative solutions.

Vishal Goundar, the newly elected trustee, emphasized the importance of the co-operative’s goal. He stated that the initiative aims to secure a sustainable future for the children of Tavua while protecting the area’s natural resources. The aim is to create an inclusive environment that encourages every community member to contribute their skills and knowledge toward common objectives.

The co-operative plans to utilize Tavua’s unique natural resources and cultural heritage to develop eco-friendly tourism initiatives. Goundar highlighted that sustainable agricultural practices will not only enhance food security but also promote environmental stewardship among local farmers.

Newly elected president Tomasi Nakautoga expressed optimism about the initiative’s potential benefits for the Tavua community and the broader Fijian economy. He noted that prioritizing sustainability in tourism and agriculture could lead to job creation while preserving natural resources for future generations.

The establishment of the Tavua Co-operative for Eco-Tourism and Sustainable Agriculture is anticipated to significantly advance community development efforts in Tavua, paving the way for a brighter, more sustainable future.

This initiative underscores a broader trend towards sustainable development, which is crucial for striking a balance between economic growth and environmental preservation. It showcases how community-driven efforts can pave the way for positive change and resilience in local economies.
