Tavua’s coach, Dr. Diva Singh, is set to take on a dual role in the crucial Digicel Senior League final playoff against Bua on Saturday. Dr. Singh, a seasoned midfielder, may replace Captain Malakai Tiwa, who received a red card in the first leg of the final held at Subrail Park in Labasa, where Bua emerged victorious with a score of 1-0.
Despite not having played in a match since assuming his coaching position, Dr. Singh expressed his readiness for the challenge. He emphasized the need for his team to work diligently to secure a win by a margin of two goals, despite having the advantage of playing at home.
In an interview, Dr. Singh stated, “While we have home ground advantage, we need to concentrate on our performance and heavily focus on mental preparation. The boys must contribute significantly.” He added, “Tiwa’s red card was unexpected, and whoever steps in will have big shoes to fill. Many have urged me to play, and I have trained with the team all season, but I haven’t featured in a game yet.”
He acknowledged the possibility of playing for Tavua for the last time if circumstances require it, highlighting the importance of this match for the team’s future standings. “This is a pivotal game for us as it will influence our status for next season. We are determined to regain our place in the Premier Division, fully aware of the tough challenge ahead.”
Dr. Singh called on Tavua fans to support the team in large numbers, expressing confidence in their ability to achieve the desired outcome. Meanwhile, Bua only needs a draw to clinch the title and secure a place in the Premier Division, while Tavua must win by at least two goals. A 1-0 victory for Tavua would lead to extra time, with a potential penalty shootout if the match remains scoreless.
