Tavua’s coach, Dr. Diva Singh, is set to take on two roles in the crucial Digicel Senior League final playoff against Bua on Saturday. Dr. Singh, who is also a dependable midfielder, may fill in for Captain Malakai Tiwa, who received a red card during the first leg of the final at Subrail Park in Labasa, where Bua secured a narrow 1-0 victory.
Although Dr. Singh has not competed since becoming the team’s coach, he is prepared for the challenge ahead. He emphasized to FijiLive that, despite having the advantage of playing at home, the team must work diligently to achieve a win by two clear goals.
“We need to focus on our style of play and prioritize our mental preparation. Playing at home is always a benefit, but the team must pull together to perform,” he said.
He acknowledged Tiwa’s absence, stating that the player stepping into his position will need to rise to the occasion. “Many are encouraging me to play, and while I have been training with the team, I have not yet played this season.”
Dr. Singh indicated that if necessary, he may take the field for Tavua one last time on Saturday. “This match is crucial for us as it will impact our position for next season. We are eager to return to the Premier Division, and we understand the challenges we face,” he noted.
He also called on Tavua fans to come out in large numbers to support the team, expressing confidence in their ability to meet the challenge. Bua only requires a draw to secure the title and Premier Division status, while Tavua must win by two clear goals. If Tavua achieves a 1-0 win, the match will go to extra time, and if no further goals are scored, the victor may be decided by penalties.
