The Tavua Health Office has entered Day 14 of its Dengue Outbreak Response, actively working to contain the spread of dengue fever within the district. The team’s ongoing efforts from February 10 to February 13 involved comprehensive measures to address and mitigate the outbreak.

During this period, the health office conducted extensive house-to-house inspections in nine communities, examining a total of 172 houses. They issued 34 notices, which included 15 alerts for the presence of mosquito larvae and 19 for issues related to overgrown vegetation, improper waste disposal, and stagnant water that could breed mosquitoes. Additionally, the team implemented source reduction strategies while delivering adult mosquito spraying across 13 communities, impacting 304 households.

Community collaboration has played a crucial role in the response. Notably, Vatukoula Mine received special recognition for its proactive efforts in cutting back overgrown grass around Vatukoula Primary School, underscoring the importance of corporate social responsibility in public health initiatives. Government stakeholders also contributed by cleaning vacant lots in the town, showcasing the strength of cooperative efforts in addressing health challenges posed by dengue.

The Tavua Health Office, led by a dedicated female workforce, continues to demonstrate resilience and determination. Carrying foggers and mist blowers, they persist in their mission despite facing obstacles, exemplifying the commitment to safeguarding community health.

This concerted effort highlights a hopeful approach in dealing with dengue outbreaks, reflecting the community’s commitment to health and well-being. Through collaboration and active participation, the residents of Tavua are taking significant steps toward a healthier future.
