Residents of Tavua who are struggling with low water supplies can now apply for a free 1000-litre water tank from the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF). This initiative was announced by Infrastructure and Public Works Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau in Parliament, targeting households in the most impacted areas such as Mataniwai Top, Balata Back Rd, and Korovou Rd among others.

Minister Tuisawau emphasized that the move is part of a broader strategy to enhance community water storage and resilience against supply disruptions. He noted that this program reflects the government’s commitment to providing responsive customer service and improving overall service delivery in areas experiencing intermittent water supply.

“These water storage tanks will not only offer immediate relief but also encourage households to pursue greater self-sufficiency when it comes to water security,” said Tuisawau. The WAF is implementing both short-term solutions, like this tank distribution, as well as long-term plans, including upgrading the Vatukoula water treatment plant as part of a three-year development program aimed at addressing increasing water demand due to population growth and other developments in the Tavua area.

This proactive approach aligns with recent efforts in other regions facing similar water supply issues. For instance, successful initiatives in places like Nadi and Kumi Village have seen the distribution of water tanks to enhance community access to clean water. Such collective efforts signify a spirit of resilience among Fijian communities, illustrating how cooperation between the government and residents can lead to lasting solutions for essential services.

Overall, there is a strong sense of optimism as both immediate and long-term strategies are employed to improve water accessibility in Tavua, promising a future where all residents have reliable access to clean and sufficient water supplies.
