A recent operation in Taveuni aimed at addressing the theft of yaqona and dalo has led to multiple arrests from January 22 to January 28. Among those arrested was a 32-year-old farmer who was charged in relation to two incidents of dalo theft. Additionally, six other men were detained for various offenses, which included yaqona and dalo theft, criminal intimidation, and unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, praised the local community for its quick communication, which played a crucial role in the operation’s success. He underscored the importance of collaboration with community members and stakeholders in the ongoing fight against such thefts in Fiji.
This initiative not only highlights law enforcement’s dedication to curbing agricultural theft but also showcases the vital role that community engagement plays in maintaining safety and security. With continued efforts and support from the public, there is hope for a significant reduction in such crimes, allowing for a more secure environment for farmers and local businesses.
