The students of Sigatoka Methodist School received an unexpected early Christmas present from the Tappoo family, one of Fiji’s prominent corporate families. With strong ties to Sigatoka and a long history with the school, the Tappoo Group, through its Tappoo Foundation, recently addressed the school’s pressing water supply needs. They funded the construction of essential infrastructure to house two 10,000-liter water tanks at the newly relocated Sigatoka Methodist College in Kulukulu.
During the inauguration ceremony, Tappoo Group chairperson Kanti Tappoo shared nostalgic stories about his childhood in Sigatoka, where he grew up alongside his six brothers and two sisters. He emphasized that the Tappoo family’s connection with the school spans generations, including his grandchildren, Ravi and Brinda, who have also attended the school. Tappoo fondly recalled participating in Sunday school and learning Christian values, crediting the late Reverend Edward Caleb for instilling those lessons in his formative years.
The school had recently relocated from Laselase to a new 10-acre property in Kulukulu, a move supported by the Methodist Church. However, the school faced significant water supply challenges in its new location. School manager Jacob Pau’u highlighted the importance of the Tappoo family’s assistance, stating that the newly installed tanks would ensure a reliable water supply for the students and staff, even during times of inconsistency.
Kanti Tappoo expressed his commitment to supporting the school that has played a crucial role in his family’s upbringing, emphasizing that the Tappoo Group is dedicated to giving back to the community each year, particularly to beneficiaries with whom they share deep connections.
This philanthropic effort showcases how corporate responsibility can positively impact local communities, ensuring that essential resources are accessible for education. The Tappoo family’s generous provision not only resolves immediate challenges faced by the school but also sets a strong example of community support.
In summary, the contribution from the Tappoo family highlights the importance of supporting educational institutions and fostering communal ties, ensuring a brighter future for the students of Sigatoka Methodist School.
