In a heartwarming gesture, the Tappoo family has brought early Christmas cheer to the students of Sigatoka Methodist School. Known for their philanthropic efforts, the Tappoo Group, through its Tappoo Foundation, has addressed the school’s pressing water supply needs by constructing infrastructure that accommodates two 10,000-litre water tanks at the newly established Sigatoka Methodist College in Kulukulu, Sigatoka.
During the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group and a former student of the school, reminisced about his childhood in Sigatoka alongside his six brothers and two sisters. He shared the legacy of his family’s long-standing connection to the school, highlighting that not only his siblings but also multiple generations, including his grandchildren, have attended the institution. Kanti fondly recalled his Sunday school experiences and the values instilled by the late Reverend Edward Caleb, who profoundly influenced his educational journey.
The move of the Sigatoka Methodist School to a new 10-acre site in Kulukulu aimed to enhance educational opportunities, but presented challenges, primarily with water supply. School manager Jacob Pau’u noted the establishment of the water tanks would mitigate these issues, ensuring that students have reliable access to water even when regular supply is disrupted. Kanti Tappoo expressed the family’s commitment to supporting the school which played a pivotal role in their upbringing.
Founded by the late Tappoo Kanji in 1941, the Tappoo Group has a tradition of giving back to the community, marking each anniversary by supporting local beneficiaries, including the Sigatoka Methodist School.
This initiative not only showcases the Tappoo family’s dedication to education but also reinforces the bond between the community and the school, setting a hopeful precedent for future collaborations that prioritize the welfare of students. Such acts of kindness serve as a reminder of the importance of supporting educational institutions, ultimately shaping the future of the community.
Overall, this story highlights the critical role of community involvement in education, exemplifying how corporate entities can make a substantial positive impact in their local areas.
