Students at Sigatoka Methodist School experienced a festive surprise as the Tappoo family, prominent figures in Fiji’s corporate world, stepped in to address the school’s water supply needs. The Tappoo Group, through its Tappoo Foundation, has dedicated resources to construct infrastructure that accommodates two large 10,000-litre water tanks at the newly established Sigatoka Methodist College in Kulukulu.

During the inauguration ceremony held on Wednesday, Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group and former student, reminisced about his childhood in Sigatoka. He highlighted the deep familial ties and legacy of the Tappoo family with the school, sharing that not only he and his siblings but also his grandchildren have attended this institution. Kanti expressed his gratitude towards the late Reverend Edward Caleb for the invaluable lessons in values education he imparted during their early years.

As the school recently relocated from Laselase to a more expansive 10-acre property in Kulukulu, it faced challenges with inconsistent water supply. School manager Jacob Pau’u acknowledged the crucial role of the Tappoo family in resolving this issue, stating that the installation of water tanks ensures the school’s needs are met even when regular supply is disrupted.

The Tappoo family’s commitment to giving back to their community is evident in their annual celebrations, where they support various beneficiaries, including local villages and schools they have historical connections with. This generous act not only helps ensure a stable water supply for the school but also reinforces the community ties that have persisted through generations.

This initiative reflects a broader commitment to community welfare and highlights the important role that corporate social responsibility plays in supporting educational institutions. It’s a reminder of how local businesses can contribute meaningfully to the development of future generations. By investing in infrastructure and education, the Tappoo family not only uplifts the community but also inspires other businesses to take similar actions.

Overall, this collaboration between the Tappoo family and Sigatoka Methodist School paints a hopeful picture of community support and corporate responsibility, setting a positive precedent for future partnerships aimed at improving educational infrastructure in Fiji.
