Residents in the Suva-Lami corridor are currently experiencing disruptions in their water supply due to reduced production capacity at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant. The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has reported that the situation stems from high turbidity in the raw water sourced from the Waimanu, Headworks 3, and Savura catchments.

The persistent rainfall and continued wet weather have led to a decline in raw water quality, which in turn has impacted the output of the treatment plant. As a result, reservoir levels have been affected and WAF has implemented temporary supply management measures in various areas to ensure the stability of the water system.

WAF is actively assisting communities impacted by these interruptions through water carting services where necessary. The areas specifically affected include the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant, Nagatugatu Reservoir, Tacirua Reservoir, Dokanaisuva Reservoir, and Colo-i-Suva Reservoir. WAF has indicated that their teams are on standby to provide water carting services to customers facing extended supply disruptions.

The authority also noted that operations teams are closely monitoring the situation and will adjust treatment processes as the quality of raw water improves. Water supply is expected to be progressively restored once conditions stabilize, highlighting the authority’s commitment to supporting residents during this challenging period. This proactive approach bodes well for the community as they navigate through the disruptions.
