Former Flying Fijians and All Blacks centre Setareki Tamanivalu achieved a significant milestone by marking his 50th appearance for Toshiba Brave Lupus in Japan’s League One. The 32-year-old player made his presence felt in the match against Kobe Steelers, scoring the opening try in their hard-fought 32-26 victory and contributing to another try through a well-placed kick.
Tamanivalu’s try came from an impressive play orchestrated by teammate Shannon Frizell, who took advantage of a lineout near the Kobe 22. Frizell’s quick pass allowed Tamanivalu to secure the initial points for his team.
In a standout performance, fellow Fijian and Japan XVs winger Jone Naikabula also shone, netting two tries in the match, with his second try proving to be the decisive score to clinch the victory.
In addition to Tamanivalu and Naikabula, the Brave Lupus squad features prominent players such as Captain Michael Leitch and Samuela Anise, while the opposing team included notable athletes Inoke Burua, Waisake Raratubua, and Michael Little.
This performance not only highlights Tamanivalu’s talent but also the strength of Fijian rugby, showcasing the impactful contributions of Fijian players in international leagues. As Tamanivalu continues to excel, it bodes well for the future of rugby by inspiring younger players and reflecting the rich rugby heritage of Fiji.
