Taiwan and Fiji have made significant strides in enhancing their collaboration on disaster response and emergency medical services. In a recent ceremony held by the Taipei Trade Office in Fiji, new emergency medical equipment was officially handed over from Taiwan’s National Fire Agency.
Joseph Chow, the representative from Taiwan, highlighted that this donation is part of a broader and ongoing initiative aimed at bolstering Fiji’s emergency response capabilities. He affirmed Taiwan’s commitment to maintaining a long-term partnership with Fiji, stating, “We look forward to expanding our cooperation across more areas and supporting efforts to build safer and more resilient communities.”
The National Fire Authority’s CEO, Puamau Sowane, expressed gratitude towards Taiwan for its steadfast support, noting that the new supplies will greatly enhance Fiji’s ability to deliver emergency medical care prior to patients arriving at hospitals. He also extended thanks to Taiwan’s National Fire Agency, Changhua Christian Hospital, and various partner organizations for their assistance.
Earlier this year, Sowane traveled to Taiwan to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the National Fire Agency, solidifying a formal strategy for ongoing collaboration. Additionally, a group of ten Fijian Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) recently completed an intensive training program in Taiwan, equipping them with essential skills to strengthen Fiji’s future emergency-response capabilities.
This growing partnership underscores the importance of international cooperation in improving public safety and emergency services, promising a more resilient future for Fiji against natural disasters.
