More than 800 students from seven schools are set to participate in the Tailevu Zone athletics meet held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva over the next two days. East Zone Vice President Waisiki Koroivulavou expressed that the level of competition has never been higher as schools strive to dethrone the reigning champions, Ratu Kadavulevu School and Tailevu North College.
Athletes have been recording personal bests in their events leading up to the competition, setting a promising tone for the days ahead. “All teams are preparing well,” noted Koroivulavou, despite recent challenges posed by poor weather during inter-house competitions. As the student-athletes gear up for the inter-school meet, the anticipation builds for another remarkable display of talent and sportsmanship.
Safety and student conduct are also priorities for this event. Koroivulavou highlighted the importance of fostering a safe environment for both athletes and supporters during the competition.
Participating schools in this thrilling contest include Ratu Kadavulevu School, Queen Victoria School, St. Vincent College, Dawasamu Secondary School, Wainibuka Secondary School, Naiyala High School, and Tailevu North College. The competition commences at 11 AM, with live coverage available on FBC Sports, allowing friends and families to rally behind their respective schools.
Given the recent surge in enthusiasm surrounding athletics in Fiji demonstrated by events like the Suva Zone athletics and the Coca-Cola Lautoka and Yasawa Zone competitions, the Tailevu Zone meet reinforces a culture of competition, camaraderie, and community support among schools. This positivity showcases a collective commitment to nurturing athletic talent and promoting sportsmanship among the youth, paving the way for an encouraging future in athletics across Fiji.
