The Tailevu Rugby Football Union has taken firm action against the Korocawiri (Ovea) Rugby Club and Natakali Rugby Club following an incident during their Semi-Final match at the 2026 Tailevu rugby 10s tournament on Saturday, February 28, at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.

In a statement, Tailevu Rugby Union President Joseph Rodan Snr addressed the importance of maintaining positive behavior among clubs and supporters, both on and off the field. Following a comprehensive meeting that included the Games Coordinator, Games Committee, Tailevu Referee Association, and Executive Committee representatives, a decision was made to award the match to Natakali Rugby Club after Korocawiri (Ovea) Rugby Club abandoned the game just before full time while trailing.

Rodan confirmed that both clubs would face a cash fine and a final written warning, indicating that any similar breaches of conduct could lead to termination or expulsion from all competitions governed by the Tailevu Rugby Football Union. He stressed the clubs’ vital role in youth development and community engagement through rugby and highlighted the sport’s potential to instill discipline, unity, and positive social pathways.

The union intends to guide the clubs in adhering to the World Rugby Values and Code of Conduct, with official communication slated to be sent to the clubs on Monday, March 2, 2026. They expressed appreciation for the support of the Fiji Police Force and the Forces Training Group Rugby Team, who helped maintain order during the incident.

Fiji Rugby Union Board Chairman Mr. John Sanday also reinforced the essential values of rugby at a national level. He viewed rugby as a significant pillar of discipline that fosters positive change within communities. Sanday denounced any behavior that undermines these values, asserting that such conduct would not be tolerated. He acknowledged the findings of the Tailevu Rugby Union’s internal inquiry and disciplinary measures while reiterating the need for all provincial unions to uphold respectful and safe environments at rugby venues.

The Tailevu Rugby Union’s commitment to discipline and respect underscores their dedication to the continued growth and development of rugby in the region, promoting a culture of positivity among players and fans alike.
