Luke Tagi, a prop for the Flying Fijians, will be absent from the upcoming Tests against the Wallabies and Scotland due to an ankle injury incurred while playing for his Top 14 club, Bayonne. Following discussions with Tagi, the Bayonne medical staff, and Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne, it was decided that he would need to focus on his recovery and medical treatment, standing down from all rugby activities.

Byrne expressed that Tagi is an essential member of the team, and his absence will be felt. To fill Tagi’s shoes, Byrne has called up Drua prop Samu Tawake as a replacement. Tagi, whose contract with Bayonne extends until 2028, will remain in France to undergo rehabilitation.

The Flying Fijians are scheduled to face Australia on July 6 in Newcastle, followed by a home test against Scotland in Suva on July 12. This situation highlights the challenges teams face with injuries, but it also reflects the depth and resilience of the squad as they adapt to changes in personnel.

It is promising to see that, despite the injury setbacks, the management is taking a proactive approach to ensure player well-being, suggesting a commitment to long-term player health and performance. The team still has a strong lineup and remains hopeful as they prepare for the upcoming matches, striving to maintain a competitive edge on the international stage.
