The 2025 Park Jeong-hee Cup International Open Taekwondo Competition took place in Gyeongbuk, South Korea, drawing significant interest globally. This prestigious event, held from July 18th to 21st, gathered over 4,200 athletes from 18 nations, including powerhouses such as Korea, the United States, and France, in various competitions like poomsae, sparring, and breaking.
The standout performer was the Shincheonji Church of Jesus Taekwondo Team, who achieved a remarkable sweep at the competition, securing a total of 25 medals, including four golds, seven silvers, and 14 bronzes. Notably, athlete Jeong Jun-yong excelled in the individual poomsae event, impressing judges with his technique despite minimal preparation.
While this event highlighted the dominance of South Korea in taekwondo, it also served as an inspiring benchmark for developing nations such as Fiji, where interest in the sport is gaining momentum.
