Twenty students gathered for the inaugural day of the RT Xtreme Tae Kwon Do summer camp held at Boxfit Gym in Toorak, Suva. The camp is being led by chief instructor Pranit Kumar, alongside Grand Master Andy Rutten, who traveled from Adelaide to offer expertise to the young athletes of Fiji.
Kumar was pleased with the turnout and expressed his desire to welcome even more participants into the club in the future. He highlighted that the primary aim of the summer camp is to foster development, especially for junior participants. “Our ultimate goal is to produce athletes capable of competing at the Olympics and other prestigious events such as the Oceania Games,” Kumar stated.
The camp, orchestrated by Rutten, is tailored to provide a comprehensive foundation for newcomers to Tae Kwon Do. Kumar emphasized the importance of instilling values such as discipline, respect, and personal growth among the students. As a sparring athlete, he noted that while Tae Kwon Do has significant opportunities in Olympic sparring, there are also avenues for competition at the world level in various categories.
The RT Xtreme Tae Kwon Do Summer Camp is set to wrap up today.
This event not only demonstrates the growing interest in Tae Kwon Do in Fiji but also presents an exciting opportunity for the youth to engage in a discipline that emphasizes physical fitness and personal development. Moreover, with aspirations of Olympic participation, this initiative may help motivate future generations of Fijian athletes.
