Fiji Bati’s Kurt Donoghoe, who plays as a hooker for the Dolphins, is facing a potential fine for a dangerous tackle. He has been charged with a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact offense stemming from an incident that occurred during the 60th minute of a match against Viliame Kikau’s Bulldogs at Accor Stadium. During this play, Donoghoe tackled halfback Toby Sexton as he was about to kick the ball, resulting in an immediate penalty at the time.

If Donoghoe chooses to enter an early guilty plea, he will be fined $1,000. Alongside him, Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo and Panthers forward Liam Henry are also in trouble, facing possible suspensions for dangerous plays during last night’s round 12 matches.

Mulitalo has been charged with Grade 2 Dangerous Contact for a tackle on Sydney Roosters centre Mark Nawaqanitawase during a pivotal moment that led to a sensational try by halfback Hugo Savala. This highlights ongoing concerns regarding player safety and the strict enforcement of rules following dangerous tackles.

In other disciplinary developments, players like Api Koroisau and retiring Dolphins captain Jesse Bromwich have received suspensions and fines for similar offenses, indicating a broader effort by the league to maintain safety standards.

While the recent spate of fines and suspensions may seem daunting, it underscores the commitment to prioritizing player safety within the sport. These measures not only protect players but also foster an environment where on-field conduct is taken seriously. With the upcoming Pacific Bowl campaign on the horizon, it’s crucial for players to demonstrate accountability and sportsmanship, reflecting positively on their teams.
