The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party announced that the internal processes of the party are now underway to evaluate the situation concerning party member and MP Lynda Tabuya. This follows her recent dismissal from the cabinet after an explicit video involving her was leaked and shared online.
In an update provided to Fiji One News, General Secretary Balawa stated that the disciplinary committee is actively working in accordance with the party’s constitution. He emphasized that Tabuya will indeed be afforded the opportunity to present her case during the committee’s proceedings.
The disciplinary committee has been given a timeframe of 21 days to carry out its investigation and subsequently report back to party management. It consists of six members, ensuring representation, including women, which speaks to the party’s commitment to inclusivity.
Balawa reaffirmed that the investigation will be conducted independently, highlighting the importance of maintaining the integrity and privacy of the process. He expressed a desire for all committee members to carry out their duties with the fairness and integrity expected of them, free from outside influence.
In a related development, the People’s Alliance Party Executive Committee convened to deliberate on the situation and outline the next steps. Notably, Party Leader and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka participated in the meeting remotely, alongside other senior officials.
This situation underscores the party’s commitment to due process while also demonstrating a willingness to address matters internally and transparently. As the investigation unfolds, there is hope that it could lead to constructive outcomes for all parties involved, reinforcing the principles of accountability and integrity at the heart of political engagement.
