The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party has announced that the internal processes of the party are moving forward to determine the status of party member and member of parliament, Lynda Tabuya. This comes after Tabuya was removed from her cabinet position last week due to a leaked explicit video that circulated online.
In a statement, Balawa mentioned that updates regarding Tabuya’s case were discussed during a recent committee meeting. He confirmed that Tabuya will have the opportunity to present her side of the story before the disciplinary committee. The committee has been tasked with a 21-day timeframe to conduct their investigation and report back to party management.
Balawa highlighted that the committee comprises six members, including women, and emphasized the importance of conducting the proceedings impartially. “We want them to be given the freedom and the privacy to conduct their work with fairness and integrity without interference from anybody,” he stated.
The People’s Alliance Party Executive Committee met to deliberate on the matter and outline the next steps. Party Leader and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka participated in the meeting remotely, while other senior executives joined via Zoom.
