The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party has announced that the internal procedures concerning party member and Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya are currently underway. This follows Tabuya’s recent dismissal from the cabinet after an explicit video of her surfaced online.
In a statement, General Secretary Balawa confirmed that the disciplinary committee has begun its work in line with the party’s constitution. He added that Tabuya will have the opportunity to present her case to the committee. The committee has been given a timeframe of 21 days to complete its investigation and provide feedback to the party’s management.
Balawa emphasized the independence of the ongoing process, assuring that the integrity and privacy of the proceedings will be upheld. “We want them to be given the freedom and the privacy to conduct their work with fairness and integrity without interference from anybody,” he noted.
The issue was further discussed in a meeting of the People’s Alliance Party Executive Committee, which included participation from Party Leader and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who joined remotely, as well as other senior executives who attended via Zoom.
This situation highlights the accountability mechanisms within political parties and the importance of due process. It underscores the belief that every member, regardless of the challenges faced, deserves a fair opportunity to defend themselves.
