The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party (PAP) has announced that the internal processes are being initiated to evaluate the situation concerning party member and Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya. This action follows her dismissal from the cabinet last week after an explicit video of her was leaked and spread online.
According to Balawa, updates were given to the party regarding Tabuya’s case, and the disciplinary committee is proceeding in adherence to the party’s constitution. Balawa emphasized that Tabuya will have an opportunity to present her defense to the committee.
The committee, which is composed of six members, including women, has been allocated a period of 21 days to investigate and report back to the party’s management. Balawa assured that this investigation would be conducted with independence, aiming to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the process.
“We want them to be given the freedom and the privacy to conduct their work with fairness and integrity,” Balawa stated, highlighting the importance of an impartial examination.
The PAP Executive Committee met to discuss the next steps regarding this matter, with notable participation from party leaders, including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who joined the meeting virtually, along with other senior executives.
This situation reflects the party’s commitment to transparency and due process, allowing for a thorough investigation while giving Tabuya the opportunity to respond to the allegations against her. The outcome of this process will not only affect Tabuya but could also have broader implications for the party’s governance and integrity.
In light of this situation, it is encouraging to see a structured approach to handling internal disputes. The commitment to fairness and privacy could lead to a resolution that upholds the values of the party, demonstrating its dedication to maintaining respect and integrity within its ranks.
