The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party has announced that the internal processes of the party are now underway to determine the future of Lynda Tabuya, who is both a member of the party and a member of parliament. The decision comes in light of Tabuya’s recent dismissal from her cabinet position following the leak of an explicit video of her.

The General Secretary confirmed that the disciplinary committee is actively working in accordance with the party’s constitution. Tabuya will have the opportunity to present her side of the story to the committee as part of the investigative process.

This committee has been given 21 days to carry out its investigation and report back to the party’s management. It consists of six members, including women, emphasizing the party’s commitment to a transparent and fair process. The General Secretary highlighted the importance of conducting the investigation independently and ensuring the integrity and privacy of all parties involved.

The People’s Alliance Party Executive Committee convened to discuss the issue and agree on the next steps. Party Leader and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka participated in the meeting virtually, alongside other senior executives who joined via Zoom.

This situation underscores the importance of accountability within political parties and the commitment to uphold standards of conduct. The opportunity for Tabuya to present her case reflects the party’s dedication to a fair and just process.

In summary, while the situation is challenging, it demonstrates the mechanisms unique to democratic systems that allow for transparency and accountability among party members. This could serve as a turning point for the People’s Alliance Party to reinforce its commitment to ethical conduct and integrity in politics.
