The General Secretary of the People’s Alliance Party has announced that the internal processes are underway to evaluate the status of party member and Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya. Last week, Tabuya was removed from her cabinet position following the leak of an explicit video that circulated online.
According to Balawa, party representatives convened to discuss the situation surrounding Tabuya. He assured that she would be allowed to present her case before the disciplinary committee, which is functioning in accordance with the party constitution. The committee has a timeframe of 21 days to investigate and report their findings to the party management.
Balawa emphasized that there are six members on the committee, including women, and highlighted the independent nature of the process. He reiterated the importance of conducting the investigation with fairness and integrity, protecting the privacy of all parties involved.
A meeting of the People’s Alliance Party Executive Committee was held in response to this issue, with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka participating virtually. Other senior executives, including Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica and Minister for Forests and Fisheries Alitia Bainivalu, attended the meeting at the party headquarters.
This situation presents an opportunity for the party to demonstrate its commitment to justice and transparency. The focus on an independent process underscores the party’s values of fairness, allowing for due process to unfold. By providing Tabuya an opportunity to state her case, the People’s Alliance Party is reinforcing the principle of accountability within its ranks, which may ultimately strengthen the party’s foundations in the eyes of its members and the public.
