Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka refrained from confirming if any measures would be taken against Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, regarding claims of insubordination. Ms. Tabuya has publicly expressed her support for reinstating the death penalty as a deterrent for drug-related crimes, a matter that should have been discussed within the Cabinet first. Earlier in the week, Mr. Rabuka mentioned that the Cabinet would address Ms. Tabuya’s actions. She is known for disregarding Cabinet protocols, leading to increasing calls for her removal from her position. In a recent interview, Mr. Rabuka stated that he did not want to make a premature judgment on the situation. “The issue of Lynda Tabuya has not been dealt with,” he remarked, noting that he has not yet spent enough time in Fiji to resolve the matter, which was expected to be discussed by the Cabinet. He emphasized that it was unfortunate for Ms. Tabuya to share her opinions publicly before Cabinet discussions took place.
