Tabuya Sets Sights on 2026 Elections: A Call for Continuity and Support

The Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, has announced her intention to run in the 2026 General Elections. In an interview with The Fiji Times online platform, The Lens@177, she explained that her decision is driven by the support of her constituents and the necessity for ongoing policy implementation.

Tabuya emphasized the importance of continuity in her work, stating, “The need to continue the work that you do, I believe, cannot be achieved in just a four-year timeframe.” She further noted that when policies deemed beneficial for the people are being supported at the grassroots level, the drive for continuity becomes essential.

She expressed her desire for public backing but acknowledged that the ultimate decision rests with the voters in the upcoming elections. Regarding Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s announcement to seek reelection in 2026, Tabuya affirmed her unwavering support for him, declaring, “I want to publicly state my support for him to run in 2026.”

She also mentioned her openness to taking on another leadership role within the party if the opportunity arises. Tabuya commented on the nature of leadership contests, indicating that any party member challenging the Prime Minister should not be judged, as such processes are fundamental to democracy.
