Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially removed Lynda Tabuya from her role in the cabinet, specifically as Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection. The decision comes in response to recent events regarding her conduct and in light of her ministerial oath and the standards expected from members of the cabinet.
Rabuka emphasized that this decision was made with careful consideration and is in the best interest of the public. He invoked his constitutional authority under Section 92(3)(b) to effect her dismissal immediately. Notably, while Tabuya has been removed from her ministerial position, she will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament.
To fill the vacancy left by Tabuya, the Prime Minister has appointed Sashi Kiran, who will take over as Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection following her swearing-in ceremony by the President.
This reshuffling indicates a commitment to maintaining high standards within the government, and the appointment of Sashi Kiran brings the potential for fresh perspectives and renewed focus on social issues affecting women and children in the country. As the government transitions to new leadership within the ministry, there is hope for positive developments that can better serve the needs of these vulnerable populations.
