Swinging in Paradise: Golf Tournament Wraps Up in Fiji

Kevin McCarthy participated in the final day of the Swire Shipping 42nd Fiji Senior Golf Tournament held at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva. With nearly 35 years of golfing experience, McCarthy was among the last competitors in the three-day event, beginning at the 18th hole.

McCarthy expressed his satisfaction with the weather throughout the tournament, noting, “We’ve been having a great day, we have been very lucky with the weather for three days and we’ve not really had much rain.” Though he felt the quality of play had not matched the pleasant weather, he emphasized the enjoyment of the event, saying it was a lot of fun with great company.

During the interview, he highlighted the camaraderie among his fellow golfers, stating, “The group I’m with has been a very fantastic group; we’re having a lot of fun as well as playing our golf.” He also took the opportunity to encourage young people to get involved in golf, stating, “Golf is a wonderful sport and we’d certainly like to encourage as many kids to come in and play.”

McCarthy mentioned a new junior program aimed at engaging young players, encouraging them to try the sport and see if it suits them. The tournament concluded with a prize-giving dinner at the Yue Lai Hotel in Flagstaff, Suva.
