Swells and Storms: Fiji’s Coastal Regions on High Alert

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a coastal inundation alert for all low-lying coastal regions of Southern Viti Levu, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands in the Central and Southern Lau groups.

The meteorological agency indicates that a high-pressure system situated far to the southwest of Fiji is expected to produce and direct moderate to heavy southerly swells across the southern waters of Fiji.

The predicted high tides with accompanying swell heights are as follows:
– Friday, September 6, 2024, at 8:00 PM: 1.9 meters
– Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 8:20 AM: 1.8 meters

There are potential impacts of coastal inundation and debris in low-lying areas, particularly during high tides, making this a dangerous time for recreational activities.
