The Suva under-14 boys Kaji rugby team triumphed over Ra with a score of 14-0 in an exhilarating cup final during the Vodafone National Kaji & Kajiana Championship 2024, held at the HFC Bank Stadium on Thursday.
Coach Ilisoni Tagivetaua expressed his gratitude toward his team for their remarkable performance throughout the three-day tournament, which commenced on Tuesday. “I certainly would like to thank my boys for the job well done today and all the sacrifices, hard work, and perseverance that paid off. I also want to extend my thanks to the Ra team,” Tagivetaua said.
This final rematch followed Ra’s earlier victory in the group matches, where they edged out Suva with a narrow win of 7-5. Acknowledging this, Tagivetaua pointed out that his team had analyzed their earlier performance and focused on refining essential skills that contributed to their victory in the final.
“We regrouped and worked on getting the basics right, and it paid off,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of defense and maintaining composure throughout the match. He fondly dedicated the win to the parents and guardians of his team, as well as to other Suva teams that participated in the tournament but did not advance.
This victory not only showcases the resilience and talent of the Suva team but also fosters a sense of community and pride in youth sports, inspiring future generations of players.
Overall, the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork evident in this championship reflects the positive impact of rugby on the youth in Fiji, fostering bonds and encouraging a culture of hard work and dedication.
