The Rotaract Club of Suva has made a significant contribution to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM) in Suva by donating an ultrasound system to the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Department. The handover took place last week, with the effort being coordinated by Melbourne-based Rotarian and former lecturer at the Fiji National University, Dr. John Salmon, along with local support from Clifford Smith of Shipping Services (Fiji) Pte Ltd.

Dr. Anisi Kavoa, the clinical lead of ICU at CWM Hospital, expressed heartfelt thanks for receiving the ultrasound machine, noting its importance in enhancing patient care in the ICU and other departments located in the hospital’s east wing. The president of the Rotaract Club of Suva, Margret Savou, highlighted that the donation is part of a broader initiative by the club to assist the hospital with its capacity challenges, ultimately benefiting patients in the region. Savou acknowledged the collaboration with various partners and praised Shipping Services for its logistical assistance.

Earlier this year, under the leadership of former president Kelera Kuboutawa, the Rotaract Club also donated equipment such as respiratory monitors, dispersers, teaching displays, and monitoring devices, furthering their commitment to improving healthcare services. In a similar vein, the club provided an ultrasound system to the obstetrics and gynaecology department last year, showcasing a consistent effort towards supporting the hospital’s healthcare infrastructure.

Founded on October 23, 1970, by the Rotary Club of Suva, the Rotaract Club of Suva holds the distinction of being the oldest Rotaract Club in the South Pacific. It serves as a platform for individuals aged 18 and above to engage with community leaders, foster professional and leadership skills, and enjoy meaningful service activities.

This generous act not only underscores the dedication of the Rotaract Club in enhancing healthcare solutions but also reflects the collaborative spirit evident in community efforts to improve the well-being of all citizens.

In summary, the ongoing support from the Rotaract Club of Suva emphasizes the power of community action in addressing healthcare needs, which is a hopeful reminder of what can be achieved when organizations work together for a common cause.
