This initiative, confirmed by Tevita Boseiwaqa, chairman of the Suva City Council (SCC), aims to address rising concerns about crime and was announced following the advertisement of a tender on January 4, 2025.

These state-of-the-art cameras are designed to utilize advanced technology similar to systems deployed in parts of Australia, focusing on detecting known offenders already under the scrutiny of the Fiji Police Force. The coverage will extend from Nabukalou Bridge to Walu Bay Bridge, ensuring comprehensive observation of key commercial areas.

Boseiwaqa emphasized the capabilities of these CCTV systems, which can track movements even in low-light conditions and register individuals of interest.
