Suva’s business owners will soon benefit from enhanced security measures as the Suva City Council (SCC) plans to install 40 advanced CCTV cameras throughout the central business district. This initiative aims to address concerns over a recent rise in crime, with the installation set to cover key areas from Nabukalou Bridge to Walu Bay Bridge.

Tevita Boseiwaqa, chairman of the SCC, confirmed that a tender for this project was publicly advertised on January 4, 2025. The state-of-the-art cameras will utilize technology akin to that found in various Australian cities, helping to identify known offenders who are already monitored by the Fiji Police Force. Boseiwaqa highlighted the advanced capabilities of these CCTV systems, which can detect movement even in low light and track persons of interest.

A dedicated monitoring station will be established, likely at either the market station or the SCC office, ensuring continuous surveillance of the city’s corridors.
