Suva’s Adi Senitoa Festival: A Culinary Showcase That Delights!

A successful food market is currently underway in Suva as part of the Adi Senitoa event this week, showcasing local businesses. Nemani Saronicava, who leads the group selling a variety of foods from Namacu, Koro, and Lomaiviti, shared insights on the commercial activities taking place.

He noted that the region has experienced stability over the past two years, and locals are once again utilizing their land to support their businesses. Despite facing challenges in the previous years, their business, named Crave Crazy Fijian Delicacy, has been revitalized and is currently being showcased at a prominent marketplace in Suva.

Saronicava mentioned that community members, who previously left, have returned to contribute positively to their households, resulting in thriving business operations. The pricing of food items this week varies widely from $5 to $20 depending on the offerings available.

The vendors at this market emphasize that all their food products are sourced directly from rural areas, and they also sell various items such as fish, meat, cassava, and other organic foods brought from the highlands.

Popular dishes available at the market include Kokoda, pork, lovo, and more, which are attracting food enthusiasts and potential customers.

Arieta Ravula, one of the women selected by the Fiji Arts Council as a vendor, expressed satisfaction with her business endeavors at the event. At 61 years old, hailing from Namata, Bau, Tailevu, she has been actively selling handicrafts for three years. She highlighted her progress, stating that her sales are currently thriving, especially alongside her sister who is also participating.

Ravula pointed out that they rely on minor earnings from their crafts to make a living, showcasing their works at markets like this is a rare opportunity for financial growth.

She shared her joy in being able to sell handmade garments and accessories which include handbags, laptop cases, cosmetic bags, and other items, with prices ranging from $10 to $60.

This week’s Adi Senitoa event has been instrumental in boosting her business, allowing her to sell all her products, which is seen as a significant achievement.

Ravula mentioned that sales during a good day can yield around $1,000, which she considers a blessing despite the difficulties of making a living. She is grateful for the opportunities the event provides, and intends to continue expanding her business in the future.
