The Suva under-11 team began the 2024 McDonald’s Talent Development Inter-District Championship with an impressive 3-0 win over Dreketi on the tournament’s opening day at the Nasinu Muslim Primary School grounds.

This victory was the culmination of two months of rigorous preparation orchestrated by head coach Ritesh Ram. He expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, crediting the success to the dedication shown during training.

However, Ram noted areas for growth, particularly in the midfield attack. “We have been preparing for this IDC for two months, and our first game against Dreketi reflected our hard work,” Ram stated. “It was a fair match, not overly challenging, but we still need to push ourselves further as this is just the beginning, and tougher opponents await.”

He highlighted the deficiencies in the midfield attack during the match against Dreketi as a key focus for improvement. Ram stressed the need for ongoing effort as the competition progresses, acknowledging the importance of learning from encounters with teams from different districts.

He dedicated the victory to the players and their parents, recognizing their essential support in the team’s preparations. Matches will continue in the various age-group divisions at the Nasinu Primary School Grounds today, with the finals scheduled for tomorrow.
