The Suva under-11 team began the 2024 McDonalds Talent Development Inter-District Championship with a strong 3-0 win over Dreketi on the opening day of the tournament at Nasinu Muslim Primary School grounds.
This victory came after two months of dedicated preparation under the guidance of head coach Ritesh Ram. He expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting that their hard work was evident in the match against Dreketi.
However, Ram highlighted that improvements are needed, particularly in the midfield attacking area. “We have been preparing for this IDC for two months, and our first game against Dreketi reflected our efforts,” he stated. “It was a fair match, not overly challenging, but we must continue to work harder as this is just the beginning, and we face tougher opponents ahead.”
The coach stressed the necessity of ongoing effort as they navigate more challenging matches in the competition. He also praised the opportunity for the players to face teams from other districts, viewing it as an essential learning experience for the young athletes.
Ram dedicated the win to the players and their parents, recognizing their support throughout the preparation process. Matches in the age-group divisions will resume today at the Nasinu Primary School Grounds, with the finals scheduled for tomorrow.
